I do not add to this very often but so much has happened. The Division of Mental Health and Addiction had offered to extend the present grant contract for three more months for July, August, and September 2013. This is such a blessing. In this time we will be able to form a board of ditectors and not just an advisory board and then apply for the 501c3 tax exempt status by september. It will take up to 6 months from that point to hear back from the IRS. But, if given the exempt status it would go back to the beginning of the nonprofit registration date in July 2012.
The hospital volunteer position is going well. I do a half hour peer support education group three days a week. My peers ask how to become certified as I am. There are one on one request on the unit and as outpatient.
A support group has been started but one two attending at this time. We are going to be planning on putting out the word that this is available.
What I am finding from the patients and peers is that there are no support groups in the rural areas such as Elizabeth, Astin, Scottburgs, Paoli Indiana. One peer has approached me to ask if I would help set up a support group in her home town.
With the extension of the grant contract I will be able to be a volunteer on the inpatient unit of Clark memorial Hospital behavioral health services for four more months. If the progress I report occured in a month, I can not even image the progress in four more months.
I am hoping to have a booth at Jeffersonville fest in preservation station on June 8th to display Dove Support Ministry Inc mission and hand out cards and promotional items such as a bumper sticker to those who stop by the booth.
Please share that this ministry and that peer support is available in Jeffersonville indiana area.
